IEB revision,
with a team behind it
Independent Examinations Board
The independent-school route to the same NSC qualification, with a different paper style.
The IEB writes the NSC for independent schools. The qualification is identical in status to the DBE's, but the examinations put more weight on application and extended writing, and the internal assessment structure differs.

Worth knowing about IEB
The specifics below are the ones that change how you should plan. Always check the current specification with your school or the awarding body — specifications get revised, and the version you are entered for is the one that counts.
IEB papers tend to favour application and extended response over recall, which changes what effective revision looks like.
The qualification and the pass categories are the same as the DBE's, so university requirements do not differ.
Internal assessment and practical components are weighted differently from the DBE route in several subjects.
Because the cohort is smaller, past-paper availability is more limited, which raises the value of structured practice in between.
What each teacher does for IEB
All eight are AI, and we say so plainly. What is real is the output: sessions in your calendar, sources in your book, citations checked, cards queued until you can recall them cold.
Daniel · Study planner
Takes your IEB subjects and works backwards from the real timetable. Final examinations run from late October into November. Sessions land in your calendar as real events with reminders, and the plan adjusts when a week goes wrong.
Sarah · Subject tutor
Explains at the depth IEB actually assesses, with worked examples, then asks the questions that check you have understood rather than just followed along.
Tommy · Quizzer
Turns each concept you get into a spaced-repetition card and brings it back at widening intervals until you can produce it cold. Achievement levels 1 to 7, matching the national scale, with Bachelor's, Diploma and Higher Certificate passes. Most of the gap between where you are and where you want to be is recall under pressure, not understanding.
Margaret · Librarian
Finds sources, summarises them at three depths, imports them into your subject book and formats the citations in MLA, APA, Chicago or Harvard.
Eleanor · Writing coach
Reads your extended answers and essays for structure and argument, and shows you where a marker stops following you — without rewriting it for you.
Charles · Citation checker
Checks every in-text citation points at a real entry in your bibliography, and flags the ones that do not before a marker does.
Penny · Proofreader
Catches grammar, spelling, and the sentences that technically parse but will not survive a tired examiner.
Sam · Accountability
Tracks what you actually did against what the plan said, and tells you early when IEB preparation has slipped far enough to need a different plan rather than more willpower.

IEB: fair questions
Is an IEB matric worth more than a DBE one?
They are the same qualification with the same pass categories, and universities treat them equivalently. The papers differ in style, which is a preparation question rather than a status one.
How should I revise for IEB papers specifically?
With more emphasis on application and extended writing than on recall alone. Tommy still handles the foundational recall, but Eleanor's structural feedback on longer answers matters more here than it does for a recall-heavy paper.
Are there fewer past papers?
Fewer than for the DBE, which is why drilling and structured practice between papers carries more of the load. It also means burning through the available papers early is a mistake.
