Worth knowing about Singapore GCE A-Level
The specifics below are the ones that change how you should plan. Always check the current specification with your school or the awarding body — specifications get revised, and the version you are entered for is the one that counts.
Rank points combine H2 subjects, an H1 contrasting subject, General Paper and Project Work — so a weak General Paper grade costs real points even though it is not a specialist subject.
Project Work is graded and completed in the first junior college year, well before the written examinations.
H3 subjects are taken by a small number of students and offer university-level depth, assessed separately.
The contrasting subject requirement means science students must offer a humanities subject and vice versa.
The examination window runs from September into November, so the final school term is the examination period rather than a run-up to it.

How much does General Paper matter?
More than most JC students act as though it does — it feeds directly into rank points, and it is frequently the weakest component in an otherwise strong profile. Eleanor works on argument and structure, which is where GP grades actually move.
When should I start A-Level revision?
Recall practice from the first term of JC1, because the examinations arrive in September of JC2 — earlier in the year than students coming from the O-Level calendar expect.
How do I handle Project Work alongside content?
