Worth knowing about Singapore GCE O-Level
The specifics below are the ones that change how you should plan. Always check the current specification with your school or the awarding body — specifications get revised, and the version you are entered for is the one that counts.
Aggregate scoring means lower is better, and only specified subjects count towards the aggregate used for placement.
Mother Tongue Language results affect eligibility and can be sat earlier under certain conditions.
Oral and listening components are held before the written papers, on their own schedule.
Additional Mathematics is a separate subject from Elementary Mathematics and is effectively a prerequisite for H2 Mathematics later.
Past-paper structure is highly consistent year to year, which makes structured drilling unusually predictive.

Which subjects count towards my aggregate?
A defined combination rather than all of them, and the set differs by the placement route you are aiming at. Worth confirming early — it changes which subjects deserve the most revision time.
Should I take Additional Mathematics?
If you intend to take H2 Mathematics at junior college, it is effectively necessary. Deciding this in Secondary 3 is far easier than discovering the constraint in JC1.
How early should I prepare for orals?
