New York's state examinations, required for a Regents Diploma and sat in January, June and August.
Regents Examinations are New York's high school exit exams, taken at the end of the relevant course rather than all at once in the final year. Passing a required set earns a Regents Diploma, and higher scores earn the Advanced Designation.

Worth knowing about New York Regents
The specifics below are the ones that change how you should plan. Always check the current specification with your school or the awarding body — specifications get revised, and the version you are entered for is the one that counts.
Regents exams are taken at the end of each relevant course, so a student may sit their first in ninth grade and their last in twelfth — a four-year sequence, not a single exam season.
The 65 pass threshold and the 85 mastery threshold mean two students can both 'pass' with very different diplomas, which matters for Advanced Designation.
Science Regents include a laboratory requirement that has to be satisfied before you are eligible to sit the exam.
Past Regents exams are published going back many years, and the question formats are highly consistent between administrations.
August administrations exist primarily for retakes, which makes a June failure recoverable before senior year rather than after it.

New York Regents: fair questions
How much should a Regents exam weigh against my GPA?
Both matter, but they matter to different audiences: the Regents decides your diploma type, the GPA drives admissions. Daniel schedules them as separate commitments so the June Regents does not quietly consume the coursework time your GPA depends on.
Are past papers useful?
