HSC (New South Wales) revision,
with a team behind it
Higher School Certificate, NSW Education Standards Authority
NSW's Year 12 certificate, with school assessment and external exams weighted equally in most courses.
The HSC combines a Preliminary year in Year 11 with the HSC year itself. In most courses the school assessment mark and the external examination mark carry equal weight, and results are reported in performance bands rather than raw marks.

Worth knowing about HSC (New South Wales)
The specifics below are the ones that change how you should plan. Always check the current specification with your school or the awarding body — specifications get revised, and the version you are entered for is the one that counts.
English is compulsory for the HSC and for an ATAR, which makes it the one subject nobody can strategically deprioritise.
School assessment marks are moderated against your cohort's exam performance, so your rank within your school matters as much as your raw mark.
Extension courses in Maths and English are worth additional units and scale strongly, but they add assessment load in an already full year.
Trial examinations in Term 3 carry substantial internal assessment weight and are often the largest single internal task.
Past HSC papers and marking guidelines are published by NESA and are close in structure to the real thing.
What each teacher does for HSC (New South Wales)
All eight are AI, and we say so plainly. What is real is the output: sessions in your calendar, sources in your book, citations checked, cards queued until you can recall them cold.
Daniel · Study planner
Takes your HSC (New South Wales) subjects and works backwards from the real timetable. External written examinations run from mid-October into early November. Sessions land in your calendar as real events with reminders, and the plan adjusts when a week goes wrong.
Sarah · Subject tutor
Explains at the depth HSC (New South Wales) actually assesses, with worked examples, then asks the questions that check you have understood rather than just followed along.
Tommy · Quizzer
Turns each concept you get into a spaced-repetition card and brings it back at widening intervals until you can produce it cold. Reported in bands 1 to 6, with Band 6 requiring 90 or above. Extension courses use bands E1 to E4. Most of the gap between where you are and where you want to be is recall under pressure, not understanding.
Margaret · Librarian
Finds sources, summarises them at three depths, imports them into your subject book and formats the citations in MLA, APA, Chicago or Harvard.
Eleanor · Writing coach
Reads your extended answers and essays for structure and argument, and shows you where a marker stops following you — without rewriting it for you.
Charles · Citation checker
Checks every in-text citation points at a real entry in your bibliography, and flags the ones that do not before a marker does.
Penny · Proofreader
Catches grammar, spelling, and the sentences that technically parse but will not survive a tired examiner.
Sam · Accountability
Tracks what you actually did against what the plan said, and tells you early when HSC (New South Wales) preparation has slipped far enough to need a different plan rather than more willpower.

HSC (New South Wales): fair questions
Why does my rank in class matter?
Because school assessment marks are moderated using your cohort's external exam results. Your position in the cohort survives moderation in a way your raw mark does not, which is why a 78 can be worth more at one school than at another.
Should I take an Extension course?
If you can carry the load well, they scale strongly and are worth real ATAR points. If you cannot, they cost you marks in the courses you were already doing — that honest assessment is what Sam is for.
How much do Trials count?
Usually a lot — they are often the heaviest single internal task of the year. Planning backwards from Term 3 rather than from the November exams is the correction most HSC students need.
